Golden Age Superman vs The Savage Hulk

Posted by SoTotallyNotANinja Jul. 25, 2009 @ 2:33 PM EDT

The reason that this argument is stupid is because Superman fanboys and Hulk fanboys will consistently pull out more and more reference-less, unprovable bullshit that they know isn't ENTIRELY true, less they lose their ground and suffer defeat at the opposite mob of eqully desperate fanboys.

Putting characters in their most overpowered states for a battle is cheap, inconceivable, an rather shady for people who just want to say somebody%uFEFF wins and not indulge the claim. So its best to use the ORIGINAL%uFEFF interpretations of the character, hence for all of you idiots, there WAS no "Pre Crisis" Superman individually.

That was the Silver-Bronze renditions put together, with many overpowering elements because as you and I know comic book readers are INSTANTLY drawn to super heroes who get titles like "faster than the speed of light" and "nuclear explosion shield" and the like.

The original Superman vs the original Hulk. I'll copy and paste from here on out.

GOLDEN AGE SUPERMAN:
As presented in the original 1930's comic strip, Superman's powers were inherent in%uFEFF all indigenous Kryptonians because of their advanced evolution. In the origin stories of the comic books and comic strip, Kryptonians were shown using the same powers that Superman would have on Earth. Krypton's larger size and gravity was also given as an explanation for the character's powers.
Superman powers mainly consisted of enhanced strength, speed, senses and durability.

When introduced in 1938, he was considerably weaker than even the Modern Era Superman. Superman was only strong enough to lift a support beam or lift a car with only one hand. He was only fast enough to pass an express train. He couldn't%uFEFF fly, he could only make powerful leaps. He could only withstand bullets and smaller artillery. This means that larger, heavier weapons, or a speeding train, could kill him.

SAVAGE HULK:
The Hulk possesses the potential for near-limitless physical strength depending directly on his emotional state, particularly his anger.[39] This has been reflected in the repeated comment "The madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets." The entity Beyonder once claimed that the Hulk's potential strength%uFEFF had "no finite element inside".[40] His durability, healing, and endurance also increase in proportion to his temper.

The%uFEFF Hulk is resistant to most forms of injury or damage. The extent varies between interpretations, but he has withstood the equivalent of inner solar temperatures, nuclear explosions, and planet-splitting impacts.

He has been shown to have both regenerative and adaptive healing abilities, including growing tissues to allow him to breathe underwater, surviving unprotected in space for extended periods (yet still eventually needing to breathe), and%uFEFF when injured, healing from most wounds within seconds.

His powerful legs allow him to leap into lower Earth orbit or across continents, and he has displayed sufficient superhuman speed to match Thor, or the Sentry. He also has less commonly described powers, including abilities allowing him to "home in" to%uFEFF his place of origin in New Mexico, resist psychic control, grow stronger from radiation or dark magic, and to see and interact with astral forms.

As Bruce Banner, he is considered one of the greatest minds on Earth. He has developed expertise in the fields of biology, chemistry, engineering, and physiology, and holds a Ph.D. in nuclear physics. He possesses "a mind so brilliant it cannot be measured on any known intelligence test".

(By THIS, I will interject, hence with proper preparation Bruce Banner is essentially LEX LUTHOR, and using the Hulk will find some Kryptonite%uFEFF or some Lead to use in the battle. This is unquantifiable and opinionated, so please ignored it.)

In The Science of Superheroes, Lois%uFEFF Grest and Robert Weinberg examined Hulks powers, explaining the scientific flaws in them. Most notably, they point out that the level of gamma radiation Banner is exposed to at the initial blast would induce radiation sickness and kill him, or if not, create significant cancer risks for Banner, because hard radiation strips cells of their ability to function.

He also explains that gamma rays are so powerful (the most powerful form of electromagnetic radiation and 10,000 times more powerful than visible light)%uFEFF that they can even create matter- a possible explanation for the increased mass that Bruce Banner takes on during transformations. "Just as the Incredible Hulk 'is the strongest one there is,' as he says himself, so too are gamma ray bursts the most powerful explosions known."

Now, I know what you're all thinking. "Oh but there are comics of Superman vs Hulk and Superman WON two out of three times so hes better stfu noob". I admit, I didn't read those comics though I've read the outcomes, and you know what, I DON'T CARE. I'll take a guess%uFEFF most of those comics were being done around the time/period when fans got the ridiulous title of "Pre Crisis Superman" rather than Golden/Bronze/or Slver Age Superman (such a broad term it is really).

And like I said earlier, its ALL about how many READERS you can get and how many issues SELL. One of those comics I know was literally DECIDED by the FANS who%uFEFF would win the battle. Who do you think America was cheering for back in the Golden-Bronze-and Silver Age of Comic Books? SUPERMAN! Why bother cheering for a tragic green abomination like Bruce Banner?

DC vs Marvel? DECIDED BY THE FANS (And I do believe Hulk actually won that one in MODERN SENSE).

This comic right here. He didn't BEAT the Hulk in a fist fight, he didn't LET the Hulk get to his peak and Hulk withered%uFEFF from then on out. Hulk was on EQUAL LEVEL with Superman even in his overpowered state (if this is his Bronze Age Silver Age form), and PUNCHED HIM STRAIGHT INTO THE SKYLINE.

To say Superman would whip Hulk is biased, ignorant, and uninformed. His super speed is NEVER that indulged or shown in the comics, so why does it factor here? Hulk still takes nuclear explosions.

A thousand nuclear explosions going off at once will just PISS HIM OFF. Therefore, a thousand hits from Superman will JUST PISS HIM OFF EVEN MORE, TILL he reaches the point where Superman's punches are the EQUIVALENT of 2:11.

I'll give Supe fanboys this though, the BEST CHANCE Superman has is to LOBOTOMIZE The Hulk. Few creatures not even DOOMSDAY can survive that if it hits deep enough. But we all know%uFEFF Superman is too much of a boyscout at this point in his history and would never go that far.

Hell, to be honest, that's the thing that gives Hulk RAW EDGE over Superman, just like how Superman generally wins because he is more accepted by the world due to his popularity%uFEFF and arguable status as the "very first superhero" ever made. Hulk breaks boundaries that Superman never crosses, Darkseid and Doomsday were some of the classic examples when Superman EVER let loose, because he secretly feared hurting people with his power. And Superman vs Hulk is like Superman vs Doomsday, cept they STAY dead and neither comes back to life.

Hulk is willing to terrorize military and threaten people, knock over buildings with people inside, flatten a city and savagely decimate towns. Hell, in the Avengers movie he VISCOUSLY BEAT UP HIS OWN teammates at the ending.

Superman would be held back by his refusal to kill until he realizes like against Darkseid that the Hulk is raging animal who will not stop unless Banner is brought out. Again, it will always end like%uFEFF SUPERMAN vs DOOMSDAY.
